District Judges Recruitment in Maharashtra

The Bombay High Court is one of the oldest and chartered High Courts in the Country. It has Appellate Jurisdiction over the State of Maharashtra, Goa , Daman & Diu. In addition to Bombay Bench it has benches at Aurangabad, Nagpur, Panaji(Goa). In Bombay it has Original Jurisdiction in addition to Appellate.

Applications are invited for 16 vacancies for the posts of District Judges, in the Judicial Service in the State of Maharashtra in the Pay Scale of Rs.16750-20500 + DA and other allowances as admissible under the Rules.

Qualification : Candidate must be (a) a holder of Degree of Law (b) practicing as an Advocate in the High Court or Courts subordinate thereto for not less than seven years on the date of publication of advertisement.

Age : must have attained the age of 35 years and must not have attained the age of 48 years in case of candidate belonging to communities recognsied as backward by the Government for the purpose of recruitment and 45 in the case of others.

Knowledge of Marathi : Must be certified by the Principal Judge of the District, where the candidate practices or within whose jurisdiction he ordinarily resides, to have sufficient knowledge of Marathi to enable him to speak, read, write and translate with facility from Marathi into English and vice-versa.

Fee : Rs.1000/- for General category and Rs.500/- for Backward Classes candidates, in the form of demand draft in favour of Registrar, High Court, Appellate Side, Bombay, payable at Bombay.

Exam : Eligible candidates will have to appear for competitive examination/written examination which shall be of not less thant 2 hours duration with 200 marks. The High Court shall hold viva-voce examination carrying 50 marks.

How to Apply : Application in prescribed format should be submitted by Registered Post only with testimonials and two passport size colour photographs , one duly attested on application and one in separate envelope without pinning it to any paper so as to reach the Registrar, High Court, Bombay-400032 on or before 10/08/2007.
